Posted April 13, 201410 yr Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with Windows XP Professional, my DVD drive TSSTcorp L632H will not read my Windows 8 upgrade disk. It will read other DVDs. I have updated the firmware. The drive properties is showing type as CD Drive with file system unknown with disk image blue but used space and free space as 0. Using device manager, when I ask it to populate the volume it is showing disk as CD-ROM 0, Type DVD, Status No Media, Partition Style Not applicable, Capacity, Unallocate space and Reserved Space all show as 0. I have also tried using a separate USB TSSTcorp DVD drive and it will also not read the Windows8 disk. My Asus desktop DVD drive (Windows 8,1) will read the Windows 8 disk but I can't use that to load Windows 8 onto my laptop - or can I? Can I link my laptop to my desktop to upgrade the laptop to Windows8 using the desktop DVD drive? Continue reading...
