Windows 8 boot-up problem, due to an accidental Windows XP installation on another partition

I had Windows 8 Pro on one partition and Windows XP SP3 on another partition for some time and I could choose which one to start. I decided to remove Win XP and format the partition Win XP was installed on. I tried to do this using Win XP CD's formatting option that appears before installation; however, I accidentally installed Win XP again on the same partition. The problem is that my laptop no longer recognizes Win 8 and starts on Win XP. I was wondering if by any chance I could retrieve Win 8?

By the way, the partition which Win 8 is installed on, is intact and healthy with all the windows files in it. Also, I tried to refresh or reset Win 8 installation using Win 8 DVD, however, it did not work; as a message appears saying that the drive is locked.

Thank you very much for your time.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
