We use a windows XP pro or & pro machine as a print controller for a large format printer. The shared driver requires SNMP to function properly and the controller PC functions as a Print server with a shared printer. All the computers have always had the same computer name and are all configured exactly the same. When a controller fails we simply swap it with another and the customer is back up and running. For the last month or 2 we have had a problem when changing the controler pc the clients cannot connect and get an "SNMP Server unavailable" error. If we change the computer name of the print controller the error goes away. My guess is there was a windows update that causes the SNMP to not connect to a new device with the same name but I cannot find any info on this.
