Posted April 5, 201410 yr Greetings: I really need help. I have Mint Petra 16 (32bit) on a USB hard drive on one port of my XP laptop, and "Porteus 3.0" on a flash on another. I don't know whether Porteus was actually responsible or not, but my problem with Petra occured immedoiately after reboot: While Petra was still hooked into one port, I booted up Porteus to rearrange and resize its desktop icons via its .gtkrc-20 file, and inadveratntly while shuffling a desktop icon to a seemingly empty area I got a "can't copy to this partition" warning when I wasn't trying to copy or overlap another icon. I don't know if the warning pertained to the Petra drive. I then rebooted into Petra and it stopped in mid-boot twice. I ran it in recovery mode and each time the running display stalled after: STARTING MOUNT NETWORK FILE SYSTEMS STARTING NETBIOS NAME SERVER STOPPING MOUNT NETWORK FILE SYSTEMS STOPPING CPU INTERRUPTS BALANCING DAEMON STARTING STARTPAR BRIDGE FOR NOTIFICATION OF UPSTART JOB START/STOP STOPPING STARTPAR BRIDGE FOR NOTIFICATION OF UPSTART JOB START/STOP And it stalls here. The fsck mode sees nothing amiss. I tried rebooting countless times no dice. I am about to reinstall Petra at this rate though distressed I'll be losing all those time-consuming configuration files and Seamonkey mail. Is there any alternative? I'm a newbie but I'll do anything in command line to fix! I have all my important work files on a separate FAT partition (totally backed up in "Copy" cloud) on the same drive so I am safe there so far I think! Thanks for any tips or assist!
