BrianHellwege Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Id need to preface this by saying that I am not a IT person but have worked with servers and software a long time. I currently have a domain controller running windows 2000 server and file sharing. I also have another system running 2008 server. My goal is to migrate everything from my 2000 server to my 2008 server. This is what Ive done so far.Ran adprep/forestprep and adprep/domainprep on the old server Pointed the TCP/IP configuration on the new server to the old server Added the new server to the old server as a member server Migrated DHCP service from the old server to the new one Ran DCPROMO on the new server promoting it as an additional domain controller (existing forest) Enabled global catalog on the new server and manually checked replication topology Manually triggered replication to synchronize active directory between the 2 servers Now I want to recognize the new domain controller with its own domain name so I can log into it and add some different software thats not running on the old server and do other testing. Is this possible? Quote
ICTCity Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Now I want to recognize the new domain controller with its own domain name so I can log into it and add some different software thats not running on the old server and do other testing. Is this possible? IF I can understand your question... the answer is yes. You can RDP (remote desktop) into your DC and make any test you want. BrianHellwege Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 Thanks for your reply. Is my problem that when executing DCPROMO should I have chosen to Create a new Domain in a new Forest instead of add a DC to an an existing forest. Right now when I log on the 2008 server it's as a user on the 2000 domain. Thanks again for your help. Quote
