Posted April 4, 201410 yr Hello, My father-in-law asked me to help him with his laptop since he's been having a lot of problems with it. After a lot of work trying to fix the issues, we decided to re-install Windows since it seemed to be the easier solution. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the installation disk. After some research, I discovered that it is possible to download an ISO file of Windows 7 on Digital River and put it on a USB drive in order to create a pseudo re-installation disk. I looked under the laptop and saw that the Product Key was still visible on the sticker, so I went ahead and re-installed Windows 7 using a USB drive that had the proper ISO file on it. However, it's only after re-installing Windows 7 that I realized that the laptop originally came with Windows Vista and that's what the Product Key was for. It seems like the laptop was upgraded to Windows 7 after, but my father-in-law doesn't remember anything about it since he's not too good with computer and this laptop originally belonged to his son. Now, we've got a fresh installation of Windows 7 but I can't figure out how to activate it. I'd really appreciate some help since I've already put a lot of time on this and can't find a solution. Thank you. Continue reading...
