"Could NOT create key" in Windows XP

I have a Dell Latitude D630. I am trying to reinstall "Dell Drivers and Utilities" Unsuccessful! I'm getting the following message:

"Could not create key s-1-5-21-3683378607-1778340000-2229963345-1005\software\Microsoft"

Verify you have sufficient access to that key.

My questions: I have logged in as an "Adminstrator"

So, I do NOT understand what they are asking me to verify ...

What do all these numbers mean???

I am afraid to use the Dell Windows operating system disk first, because I'm afraid it may "wipe clean" the entire system (Am I mistaken")

Please help. (I am a "tech newbie") Thank you!
