Will firewalls, spam, and privacy protection for XP also go down?

I'm trying to cover our XP desktops until we can afford to get new computers, and want to know what I need to get to keep the computers safe besides a virus checker, as MSE is going by the wayside also. Will I need firewall protection, a spam blocker, and a privacy protection also? Or will those I have on the computer now continue to do their job?

Getting new computers will take a while because we simply do not have the money as of yet and won't for at least six months to a year to buy two new PCs. One new PC we could afford in about six months, but not two -- our funds at the moment are needed for medical reasons (travel for my cancer treatments, mostly) so I need to know this so that I can get it done soon and keep our computers safe until then.
