Hello, I have a question about how Windows 7 deals with USB/MIDI Inputs.

Recently, I had just bought a new Alesis Vortex USB/MIDI Keytar Controller and decided to hook it up to my computer to run the Patch Editing Software and Virtual Instruments Software that I had gotten with it. But when I opened up the Firmware Upgrade for the Vortex and the Patch Editor, it told me that there were no MIDI devices connected to the computer. I didn't know what was wrong because I connected my USB cable to my Vortex and I changed the USB ports on my computer each time. The Alesis Quick Start Guide said that the Device and Software are compatible with Windows XP through 8, and that the USB/MIDI Device should be instantly recognized. Obviously, however, Windows 7 is unable to identify it regardless of the fact that it recognizes it's existence and registers it as a USB device. But no matter how many times I try to change or update the Drivers, I can't find any that work.

I would love to consult Microsoft's troubleshooting guide for this, but hey, they don't have one. I mean it's not like this is a recurring problem.

Naturally, like the hormone-induced teenager I am, I'm pretty pissed off that I spent $299 on a Keytar, that I bought to replace my other 3 Synthesizers with "Windows 7 Compatibility" that couldn't be recognized either, which now has the exact same problem as before, rendering it unusable.

Now, I didn't mean to rant and go off on a tangent, but this has been a continuous problem for me on multiple occasions, as it has been with many other people, too. Which brings me to my question:

Is there any way Windows can release an update to fix this problem, or is there a driver that can fix this for not only me but for others as well?
