Windows defender?

I am having a real problem with pop up ads that are overwhelming my computer, almost to the point of making it unusable. I have installed AdBlocker Plus, but it continues. The worst offender is "Instant Checkmate", which pops up to cover what I am attempting to do on numerous sites. It seems worse since I have installed the ad blocker. I am searching and find it has something to do with YonToo Adware possibly? AdBlocker informs me it is nearly impossible to uninstall YonToo. Certainly beyond my capabilities. Someone, somewhere must have this problem also. It makes me re-think my purchase of a new computer and Windows *.1. They told me windows Defender would sort out all of these MalWare problems, but it certainly hasn't done so. I have downloaded almost 4 GB's of "updates" since buying the computer in January, I have run a complete scan several times, which always finds no issues, but I am saying there are issues, and I want to get to the bottom of it. Anyone else dealing with this surge of ads? And installing all of these "updates" for a brand new operating system, is eating up my bandwidth.
