using windows 7 "system restore" with google webhp.htm or other ways to cure this...

I was hit by webhp.htm (a browser hijacker or rootkit virus)while tryig to update java from a game site pop-up-bad idea. I ran about 6 different free virus/malware scans including avast, malwarebytes, spybot search, msert.exe, windows security essential and windows defender. I also downloaded and ran (albeit to my own computer) ms windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. i also re-loaded Googl Chrome. My HP computer "seems" to be running just fine- though Avast is notifying me of a lot of blocked stuff. webhp.htm is still on my desk top. when i search from Start it shows up but, under the heading "pictures" doing a google search on webhp.htm reveals that this virus or whatever it is can be very difficult to get rid of, and requires a computer expert to go into the registry and remove it plus several other things that are beyond my very limited knowledge.

I am reluctant to use Eraser on the desk-top webhp.htm (not a short-cut). I did not see advice that doing a system restore would solve the issue.

All programs and windows are up to date. I am concerned that this thing is still contaminatiing my computer. Please advise.

Thanks, Joel
