Posted March 15, 201410 yr Greetings, I have a server that I colocate. Recently the server went crazy. A little earlier today I was trying to edit a config file for a minecraft server (the minecraft server is run in a 4GB ram disk, the server has 16GB of RAM and doesn't use anywhere close to it), I tried to launch nano, it gave me a segmentation fault, I tried a yum erase nano. It gave me an error. I tried a yum clean all and I got this: error: rpmdb: damaged header #518 retrieved -- skipping. And it kept repeating over and over. I tried to launch another terminal instance and log into the server, but it closed me out as soon as I entered my password. I rebooted the server over IPMI and when it came back it skipped over the HDDs in the boot sequence. I had my host take a look at it and they said that GRUB screwed up (they had no idea why). They booted the server into rescue mode and fixed it. So my question is, was this caused by the RAM disk? Or is there something else that could have caused this? Thank you! Continue reading...
