Posted March 8, 201410 yr Good day everyone, I got a new computer about a month ago, and decided to get the Norton 360 trial on my new computer for a few days to see how I like it. Based on some research I've done, I've decided to not get the full version and instead just use Windows Defender and SpyBot S&D. However, every since installing it, Windows Defender has been giving me an error. My computer is running Windows 8.1 x64. When I open Windows Defender up, this message is on the front screen: "Your PC isn't being monitored because the app's service stopped working. You should restart it now." Then, when I click the button on the bottom that says "Start Now" it pops up with another error message that says "The service could not be started. The service has not been started. Error code: 0x80070426." I have done some research on the error code, and from what I can tell apparently that error code means that the operating system is having trouble verifying itself as being a true, legit copy of Windows. However, everything else on my machine is running perfectly smoothly. When I first got the computer, it DID give me an error updating Windows Defender with the code WindowsUpdate_dt000 OR 8007005. I have tried uninstalling both Spybot S&D AND Norton 360 to no avail. I've tried starting in safe mode and making edits to the Windows Defender registries. Nothing has fixed it thus far. I would PREFER to avoid having to either do a refresh or a restore, but if I have to I have to. Anyone have any solutions to this problem? Continue reading...
