Posted March 6, 201410 yr There are 4 computers in front of me now. Two are hp 17 inch notebooks (consumer) Two are hp 17 inch mobile workstations (business) On the consumer notebooks i can view the files on each of my external 1 TB hard drive and 1 GB flash drive. On the business workstations (mobile) I am not able to view the files on either the external hard drive nor the flash drive. I need your help so that I can save files from the internal hard drive of the z book mobile workstation onto the external hard drive. And I need to be able to reconnect external drives and flash drives to the Zbook mobile workstation to transfer transfer files. These are the pop ups that appear for each when viewing the drives by opening my computer: when left clicking on the hard drive a pop up appears with title bar: Location is not available. H:\ is not accessible. Access is denied. Right clicking on the hard drive allows opening of FreeAgent GoFlex Drive (H:) Properties The tabs are ReadyBoost, Previous Versions, Quota, Customize, General, Tools, Hardware, Sharing, Security When clicking on security then advanced then permissions then continue then change owner to my name or administrator.....both methods lead to the same access denied result again. I came across this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/00d04415-2b2f-422c-b70e-b18ff918c281 Is this something that I need to study and learn before I am capable of connecting and using an external or flash drive? Or is there some other problem? If the answer lies in this link what do I need to focus on and why wasnt windows 7 configured so that it would be easy to use external drives like in win xp and win 8? Are all of the usb ports failing or all of the drivers failing or is this an all software problem? I was not able by trial and error to view any of the files from any external hard or flash drive on the two mobile workstation z books. Then I went to the flash drive. Left click on the flash drive produces a pop up with title bar G:\ You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder. After clicking continue it opens another pop up with title bar G:\ You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab. When clicking on the security tab it opens a new pop up with title bar: Removable Disk (G:) Properties The tabs are General, Tools, Hardware, Sharing, ReadyBoost, Customize It did not indicate what to do next. Summary: Two brand new computers that are hp zbook mobile workstations with win 7 pro Neither computers with their multiple usb ports allows access to either my external hard drive or flash drive. The external hard drive and flash dirve each work fine with the hp consumer laptops with win 8 and win 8.1 and have worked with computers with win xp.
