Hi,

The computer was infected (and still may be) with the Fake AV trojan. I booted into Safe Mode and ran Eset online scanner, Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes Antiroot kit. Eset found 77 infections, MWB found 338 and there were no rootkits found. I then rebooted into normal mode and ran Spybot 1.6.2, it found another 52 problems. Everything seemed fine until I ran Windows Update and it would not install an update for MSE (KB2902885), The error reported was 0x8004FF80. After doing research on the error, I found a Microsoft Fixit program that would assist in uninstalling MSE. It did not work. I attempted to do the "manual" method of removing MSE and after figuring out that the registry items needed to have the permissions changed to allow for deletion, it seemed to work.

I ran Windows update again, updated the system and it seemed fine again, albeit without MSE. I attempted to install MSE and now am getting an install error 0x80070643. I just want to install MSE, but think there is still remnants of the trojan out there.

I am not sure what to do at this time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve
