Posted February 21, 201410 yr I am asked to create a new SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 system the same as an existing one. The reason is for sharing the workloads because the existing system is running out of capacity. This new system should be a clone of the existing one. This will give the users the flexibility of running their work on whichever system that has more capacity. (like an Active/Active set up for workload splitting) I have already installed the OS. The next is to create all the users and groups. All our SUSE systems are using LDAP for security. In order to make sure that all the users and groups are identical to the existing system, can I just copy the /etc/passwd and /etc/group from the existing system ? What else do I need to copy. I am thinking of all the home directory of the users and any bash profile or bashrcs. What is the recommended steps for doing this kind of cloning ? Continue reading...
