WeiYenTan Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I am trying to have some Windows 2008 servers out on the internet through http/https My existing 2003 servers are working fine and when connecting to the LAN they work fine too. However what I am finding is that when I am connecting from the internet i am not getting any response from the clients. I found that when looking at the network monitor and looking at the traffic from these clients I am getting things like this: 146 12:03:22 PM 9/17/2011 14.5766450 svchost.exe 203.173.163.38 WIN2K8-RDS TCP TCP:Flags=......S., SrcPort=34373, DstPort=MS WBT Server(3389), PayloadLen=0, Seq=1503735608, Ack=0, Win=5840 ( ) = 5840 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} 149 12:03:22 PM 9/17/2011 14.5779759 svchost.exe WIN2K8-RDS 203.173.163.38 TCP TCP:Flags=...A..S., SrcPort=MS WBT Server(3389), DstPort=34373, PayloadLen=0, Seq=1784428816, Ack=1503735609, Win=8192 ( Scale factor not supported ) = 8192 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} 164 12:03:25 PM 9/17/2011 17.5758058 svchost.exe 203.173.163.38 WIN2K8-RDS TCP TCP:[synReTransmit #146]Flags=......S., SrcPort=34373, DstPort=MS WBT Server(3389), PayloadLen=0, Seq=1503735608, Ack=0, Win=5840 ( ) = 5840 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} 165 12:03:25 PM 9/17/2011 17.5780117 svchost.exe WIN2K8-RDS 203.173.163.38 TCP TCP:Flags=...A..S., SrcPort=MS WBT Server(3389), DstPort=34373, PayloadLen=0, Seq=1784428816, Ack=1503735609, Win=8192 ( Scale factor not supported ) = 8192 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} 200 12:03:31 PM 9/17/2011 23.5759938 svchost.exe 203.173.163.38 WIN2K8-RDS TCP TCP:[synReTransmit #146]Flags=......S., SrcPort=34373, DstPort=MS WBT Server(3389), PayloadLen=0, Seq=1503735608, Ack=0, Win=5840 ( ) = 5840 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} 201 12:03:31 PM 9/17/2011 23.5783357 svchost.exe WIN2K8-RDS 203.173.163.38 TCP TCP:Flags=...A..S., SrcPort=MS WBT Server(3389), DstPort=34373, PayloadLen=0, Seq=1784428816, Ack=1503735609, Win=8192 ( Scale factor not supported ) = 8192 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} 322 12:03:43 PM 9/17/2011 35.5749323 svchost.exe 203.173.163.38 WIN2K8-RDS TCP TCP:[synReTransmit #146]Flags=......S., SrcPort=34373, DstPort=MS WBT Server(3389), PayloadLen=0, Seq=1503735608, Ack=0, Win=5840 ( ) = 5840 {TCP:1, IPv4:8} The traffic is hitting the server but when it is responding but the traffic is not able to get back. looking at the network i can see the scale factor of the lan is: 21 12:03:11 PM 9/17/2011 3.0060808 svchost.exe WYIBM WIN2K8-RDS TCP TCP:Flags=...A...., SrcPort=59256, DstPort=MS WBT Server(3389), PayloadLen=0, Seq=1407991038, Ack=1832966790, Win=256 (scale factor 0x8) = 65536 {TCP:2718, IPv4:6123} 23 12:03:11 PM 9/17/2011 3.1008957 svchost.exe WYIBM WIN2K8-RDS RDP RDP:Windows stub parser: Requires full Common parsers. ICTCity Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Hi, I can't understand: However what I am finding is that when I am connecting from the internet i am not getting any response from the clients. That means you contact your server via internet from your client and you don't receive any answer? Which kind of protocol are you using? WeiYenTan Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 Hi thanks for the reply. The end goal is to connect to this Remote Desktop Host Session from a pc on the internet. IE I can go into the remote desktop host session rdweb and use appremote and I have portforwarded 80/443 and 3389 to this server. I just get those responses from Windows 2008..it does not make sense. Meanwhile I have tested turning off autotune turned off the heuristics It seems that as soon as it sees it balks: 400 4:17:53 AM 9/18/2011 34.3594524 svchost.exe WIN2K8-RDS 125.237.71.35 TCP TCP:Flags=...A..S., SrcPort=MS WBT Server(3389), DstPort=56827, PayloadLen=0, Seq=2447164990, Ack=4148762192, Win=8192 ( Scale factor not supported ) = 8192 {TCP:27, IPv4:26} What does ( Scale factor not supported ) mean? ICTCity Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Scale factor is a "trick" which should speed up network comunication. In fact it allows the windows size to be larger. Now, if I can remember right... by default it is enabled on Vista, 7, 2k8, 2k8 R2. Also, it shouldn't drop any connection if it fails...PROBLEM.doc Quote -------------------------------------------------------- Tu peux aussi crire en franais. Du kannst auch auf Deutsch schreiben. WeiYenTan Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Is there any way to have the server not use 8k and something larger to send back? 1 Quote
ICTCity Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Yes, you can: netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled I think that you should disable auto-tuning too.
