20 windows update shortcut appearing at the rigt side of the task bar and keep coming one by one.

The windows update short cut is continuously appearing in multiple numbers at the right side of the task bar and i cannot download updates?

 

The problem occurs for all the available updates. when i click "download and install" it is not responding that is it is coming back to the same window. I did not made any changes to the computer prior to use. This problem started when i connected a pendrive

that contains a AUTORUN virus and all the folders and files inside the pendrive appears to be shortcuts.

 

Now the windows update shortcut is appearing at the right side of the taskbar. and more than a 25 shortcurt are appearing within 5 minutes. and they are keep coming one by one.

 

And i tried the FIX IT and windows update trouble shooter.

 

When i move the cursor to the number of shortcut they are disappearing. And keep coming one by one after a few seconds.

I am using windows 7 home basic (32-bit)
