FPCH Admin AWS Posted April 28, 2013 FPCH Admin Posted April 28, 2013 A Dell Optiplex 3010 PC was just shipped to me. It has 8 GB of RAM, a 1 TB hard drive, Windows 7 Professional and Office 2013 preinstalled. Dell refused to partition the disk. Can I safely do it using the Win 7 utility or is it too dangerous? Ideally, I want two primary 100 GB partitions one for Windows 7 and the other for a future Windows 8 install. Plus an 800 GB extended partition for all my data broken up into many 'drives'. Two experts have warned me not to try this. No reason given but surfing Internet seems to indicate there are unmovable files that will prevent shrinking the existing partition. What is the Microsoft answer? I found a page on Microsoft's web site which does not warn of any problems. Had trouble pasting the link in this message but here is the best I can do http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/can-i-repartition-my-hard-disk View this thread Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
