on my sign on screen on the right bottom corner it tells me i have updates that need done...how do i

On my sign on screen, on the bottom right corner, my pc says I have several updates to been done further states that after I sign to update. Please tell me how I go about updating. I have used Windows XP for some many years that I feel like a new comer to

the pc world with windows 8 !!
