FPCH Admin AWS Posted April 23, 2013 FPCH Admin Posted April 23, 2013 FYI: my Windows Update error code is “Code 80072EE2 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.” I am using Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64 – bit operating system. Hardware is HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF. Product Number B5N10UT#ABA. Month 5 of a 3 year warranty. Additional details attached. I’ve tried the following… Verify internet connectivity – I can surf web sites including . Also I can download email. – check. Still can’t update. Make sure that Windows Firewall is turned on, and temporarily disable third-party firewalls – I can turn off Norton 360 smart firewall, but Norton won’t let me turn on Windows Firewall. – So all firewalls off, check. Still can’t update. Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software – Turn off Norton 360 antivirus. – Still can’t update. Disable software acceleration programs – None installed that I know of. Add the Windows Update website and the Microsoft Update website to the Trusted Sites list – Done, Still can’t update. Make sure that you have the latest Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) update installed - An update package that includes BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 is available for Windows Server 2003, for Windows XP, and for Windows 2000. I am using Windows 7 64-bit SP1 so this is not applicable. running the automatic fix it’s that Microsoft suggests. – Still can’t update. running them again in aggressive mode. – Still can’t update. Installed, ran, searched for root kits – 0 found, and uninstalled Malware bytes. – Still can’t update. Installed, ran, immunized, searched for root kits – 0 found, and still running Spybot Search & Destroy 2. – Still can’t update. deleting and reinstalling the network card drivers. As suggested at http://forums.techarena.in/windows-update/254741.htm – Still can’t update. Plus this broke the link to the drive Y: network share. That at least I can fix. Tried the fixit from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 - didn’t work. Tried the fixit from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941 – didn’t work. It crashed out saying “Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred. We’re sorry, but the program encountered an error trying to contact the server.
