Low disk space on Drive C

I am getting the &quotlow disk space&quot message on drive C and have used disk cleanup with minimal results. It shows 1.04 GB in &quotTempory Files&quot but although this box is checked this space is not freed. There is 55.6 GB on drive C and only 500 MB free. I have

about 2 GB in program files so what other than Windows Vista is using the remaining 50 GB?
