How can I get a recovery O.S no longer available?

Hello again,

I am having a terrible streak of bad luck!! Out of 3 PC's only one is working in limp-mode!!

I took my main desktop PC/HP pavilion a610t (2.2Gz,32bit/W-Vista/6Gs ram) to the shop when it wouldn't boot-up from my recovery boot disc. Turns out my Hrdrv. was fried and I had a Seagate 1TB installed. However the shop said they needed the

factory recovery discs to restore my O.S back on the new blank hardrv. but of course HP no longer carries those recovery discs and aren't saying where I can find any!!! The shop are telling me my sole option is to purchase a brand-new W/7 or maybe they might

be able to find a Vista but not likely.

This desktop has all new inside parts &amp w/be a shame to toss. I do have a complete factory restore disc set for XP that I ordered for my HP laptop. I also have a system shadow of my primary HP desktop W/7, 64bits, 2.8Gz, 8G. on a external storage device.

What are my options? I don't have 200$ to buy a new W8 which is what they are pushing on everybody. But I could either sell this secondary desktop to upgrade my primary one or keep it for backup.

Can I use my laptop HPzv6000, XP factory restore disc to install on my fresh hardrive?

Can I use the system shadow of my W/7, 64bit, quad-core, primary HP desktop (also stored on external device) and use it in my desktop w/new hardrv. but no O.S?

Finally, could I simply contact M.S tech/cust.svc. Explain my situation and hope for mercy?
