External Hard drives

have this problem with an external drive, it keeps changing its letter,

 

I share it on other networks (other PC's)

 

But it keeps changing its letter, so it doesnt share any more,

 

Then any short cuts I have dont work any more,

 

I cant revert back to the drive it was at first (G) it has now changed to ( I )

 

All I have done it reboot my PC (as per normal)

 

Things seem to have a mind of their own

 

I havent done anything unusual, (I dont think)

 

I havent added any new programs,

 

I HAVE had a MS update though, but I dont know if this affected anything on there

 

I am running XP pro, IE 8 (thats all I can use on IE8)

 

All my audio books/films/music is on this drive, it is linked to my iTues library, now it cant find them

 

I have tried rebooting without the drive connected, then plugging it in, that never worked

 

I have tried deleting the drivers for it, that never worked either

 

I have tried rebooting with the drive connected, that never worked either

 

I dont know what else to do now

 

Why does it do this ?????

 

A reply to this problem would really be appreciated, quickly, its driving me nuts, it just keeps changing each time I reboot
