How to get rid of Windows Media to open pictures and files

My husband started upour computer under Factory start up and it wiped out all my crochet patterns and pictures,Grrr anyway I'm trying to put patterns and pictures back in (with a back up) and I always used adobe reader to open my patterns and files,but

this darn Windows media thing keep coming up and won't let my adobe reader work,I have downloaded the adboe reader but I can't get rid of this windows media thing I hate it,and it's so comfusing all I want is my adobe reader to work again. please tell me how

to delete this Windows media thing from opening up my files and patterns,I don't want it.Have tried to delet windows medis program still it comes up when I try to open my patterns and files.I'm 62 and computer dumb and really need someone to walk me through

what I have to do to get rid of this thing. Please e-mail me
