no browser history in ie 10 windows 7 home premium

when I click on the star (favorites menu) and click on the history tab, I have no visable browser history. the only option that shows is search history, with a drop down arrow and if I choose it, I get a search box. even if I type a webpage I know I

have visited, nothing turns up in the search. I've checked my internet options. I do not have clear history on exit checked. I have all history setting at default, storage size at 250 and days to store at 20. I have unistalled ie 10, and there same problem

exists in ie9. reinstalled ie 10, and still no history. any suggestions would be appreciated. I have even tried to use history viewing software and the only results I get are for chrome and foxfire, but none for internet explorer.
