What has changed in Windows 7 that does not allow me to use 'Legacy' USB serial ports.

What was the thinking behind changing something that was working fine before the 'Expurts' (note the spelling) changed something that was working perfectly well before they fiddled (for no known reason)

I have downloaded 'New' drivers but still get a yellow warning in device manager and the ports do not work.

I have various manufacturers comm ports and none will work - drivers do not load sucessfully under Windows 7.

Downloading the 'correct' drivers from the net also doesn't work.

Unfortunately my laptop was bought with Windows7 Home Basic pre-installed and this has been nothing but a pain from day 1.

I cannot install XP over my existing system and if I want to run a dual boot system I have to upgrade - at my cost - not cheap !!!!

I am beginning to lose faith in Microsoft and, as a design engineer of experience of before Windows existed, I am a little miffed to say the least.

Please can I have a solution to this problem.

I am coding in Visual C version 6/8 and cannot test under a Windows 7 environment.

XP SP3 works like a dream and is definately my OS of choice.
