WU Error "Windows could not search for new updates" (error code 80070026)

Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2. Recently Window update has stopped working (Windows could not search for new updates). Tried

 

Fixit, SFC, SUR tool, deleting Software Distribution directory (after running AVS and spyware checks) and rebooting many times. Please can anyone

 

offer any advice? There were some problems with SFC but not sure how they related to WU. I can post other logs if required. The problem did not

 

seem to be related to any windows update.
