Cloned hard drive = No Windows Updates (win7 home edition)?

A few days ago I cloned a hard drive that was about to give up on me.

I cloned it to a smaller hard drive of the same brand and kind only a bit smaller.

 

Now, windows update won't work and for some reason I also can't install driver updates.

 

Windows finds the updates needed, downloads them and then gives me a Code 80070426 error.

I've run all the Fix-it files that microsoft provides for this error but without succes.

 

Is it something with the registry not linking the new hard drive in the same way as it did the old?

 

Does anyone have a clue how to solve this?

I run Windows 7 Home Edition on a Gateway ZX4800.
