I have an Epson Workforce 500 multifunction printer, scanner, copier, fax, which has worked fine in the past, but the scanner is no longer working.

I have tried several times, following all the online (and by phone with a tech from Epson) instructions on downloading and installing the updated printer and scanner drivers from Epson. However, the installation always stops, and the message that the drivers

cannot be installed appears (and then the message to reboot and try again appears).

I have been able to get the printer to work by reconnecting the USB cable to the printer and allowing Windows to install the ESC/P-R driver, but the scanner doesn't work, and I don't have all the other features of the printer available. When I try to get

the latest driver via Printer Preferences ,I get the message that I already have the latest driver installed.

Most recently, I used the Epson Troubleshooting Guide, up to the point at which it says: "Click or Start, and select Programs or All Programs.

Select Epson or Epson Printers, select your printer's folder, then select Epson Printer Software Uninstall."

When I do that, the program menu from the start button does not have the Epson printer listed, nor does it show the option of uninstalling the printer.

In addition, when I go to the Control Panel, to Uninstall a program, the Epson printer is not listed as an installed printer.

I tried one more time to install the driver package downloaded from the Epson site, and again, got the message that the drivers could not be installed.

Then I used Window Update to install all available Windows 7 updates, removed the Epson printer, reconnected the USB cable, and rebooted the computer. Again, Windows installed the ESC/P-R driver, which it says is the latest available. I will give up and

just not use the scanner if I can't get this resolved.
