Can't fix BSoD problem because windows won't let me install the solution.

Well at first I resumed my computer (as it was sleeping) and I went on steam. I bought a new game and was doing some stuff then I got BSoD. then I rebooted and got it again and again and again and again. So I started troubleshooting and I tried updating

my driver but it said I was unable to do it for whatever reason so I tried installing the latest windows updates that I just tossed aside as I thought they were useless (they were). Then I came across this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978982/en-us

this seemed like it would fix my problem but when I tried to install it it said error 0x800706be blah blah blah (other error like stuffs) then I thought I found the fix for this and then that wouldnt install so I found the fix for that and then it went like

that till I ended up at a page about mp3 playlists or something. So does anyone know what I might be able to do because I can't use my computer at the moment as it keeps BSoDing?
