Visio 2013 install failed and broke Office 2013

I was able to install Office 2013 Pro Plus x86 (Home Use Program) on my Win 7 x64 system using the CD and the HUP product key. (CTR stopped at 94%, but Word, etc, ran fine after a restart.)

I restarted, disabled my Sophos A-V, and tried to install Visio 2013 HUP from the downloaded installer. The install failed, and Office apps could no longer be opened. I tried a Quick Repair (hung on "Working on it") and Online Repair

(hung on step 2 of 4).

I then ran the Office 2013 uninstaller FixIt and followed the manual uninstall procedures as well (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us).

I restarted and tried to install Office 2013 again from the CD. The install hangs on "Hold on, this should only take a moment", brings up a "We couldn't install Office" dialog, and asks to Retry or Cancel. Retry results in the same

screen, Cancel leaves the "Hold on" window up until I kill Office 2013 from task manager.

How do I clean up whatever the Visio 2013 installer did so I can install Office 2013 successfully from the CD?
