Posted March 16, 201311 yr FPCH Admin After automatic updates on March 13, 2013, I receive 'page cannot be displayed' while trying to view 'some' webpages. It seems the webpages mostly effected by the update are webmail or browser popups where the email should be opening. This happens on both windows xp, and windows 7 machines after updates from MS. All 4 machines use the update automatically setting and are up to date. Symptoms: XP= Outlook would no longer connect to the pop3 server to send/receive. Outlook would display the login screen as if the password wasn't correct for the mail server login. I opened IE browser and went to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and received 'page cannot be displayed' I tried www.the-same-domain-name.com and received page cannot be displayed. (Hosting company service call said they had no issues) I can ping every url listed with no problems. Downloaded Chrome browser and received same error page cannot be displayed. Other webpages including some https websites would load fine. XP box uses Microsoft Security Essentials.I plugged in a laptop to the same network that did NOT have the March 13 updates and could log in with no trouble. Windows 7= displayed similar issues. Totally different location across town.Cannot log into web based email accounts.Outlook would display downloaded email headers but when opening the emails the popup window cannot be displayed. Long delays while loading websites causing page cannot be displayed. Firefox same results. Effecting 3 different win7 boxes using MSE, Mcafee, and Norton respectively. Laptop with no updates on same network would load the websites but with sections of the page missing images and error page cannot be displayed on only portions. (The java applet loaded, Html did not) Solutions I tried:Reboot computersRelease/renew Flush dnsVirus scans clean Check that proxy was not used. All using dhcp Reset security zones Disable Firewall and Anti-virus Checked Hosts file and more.. feel free to ask. Interesting information: Resetting the MODEM will fix the problem temporarily (30 mins or so)Xp is connected directly to modem, no router. Win 7 on router/modem. Online system restore failed on xp. Online system restore for win7 reported fail but on reboot and viewing installed updates they were removed and websites still could not be displayed. ( I re-installed updates for security reasons) A friend told me he received an email from MS stating there was a known issue and a hotfix was pending. Can anyone confirm this? What does the hotfix apply to? If it does exist please link to the email or post. My google-fu is failing me and I could not find any information on a hotfix. Feel free to ask any questions, or post similar issues / solutions. I know its the weekend. Thanks for your time. View this thread Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
