Posted March 15, 201311 yr FPCH Admin I just got a new Laptop today (Acer) with windows 8. This afternoon I set it all up, installed it. Followed the instructions on screen, like anyone would. I've used it already... Installed basic programs I need. Then when I had to leave for a bit, I turned the computer off and the " Preparing To Configure Windows. Please Do Not Turn Off Your Computer" message came on. So I left it like that.. I moved my computer to another location (I did close the lid while moving it, but that does not count as turning off does it?) and left it (with the lid open) plugged in. I figured it would shut down on it's own. When I came home and wanted to turn it on, on the screen it said "Diagnosing PC" and then "Attempting repairs". Now I heard that apparently there was a short power out while I was away... could this have caused the configuration to be interrupted? What happens when the computer is turned off while configuring? I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happened to? But what bugs me is that the laptop is brand new, started up today for the first time ever. Now the "Attempting repairs" message just keeps sitting there. Is there anything to be done? Or will it just take time and do I need to have patience? I'm always a little weary when it comes to things like this... What do I do? View this thread Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
