Posted March 5, 201311 yr FPCH Admin Ok Geniuses: (Yes, I am frustrated with this method of researching computer problems) I am running Win Pro 7 64-bit and get this response to an update: Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not currently running. You may need to restart your computer. Any thoughts on how to resolve this problem? I did do some research and checked my Services.msc Based on a "fix-it" article I found: ****************************************************************************************************************************************************** Again, go through the list of services and make sure all of the following are set to Automatic or Manual: Terminal Services, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), System Event Notification, Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions, COM+ Event System, DCOM Server Process Launcher ************************************************************************************************************** They are all there except for the Terminal Services... the BITS will not start either because it is missing something ************************************************************************************************************************************* Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the system Event Log. If this is an non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -214702809 **************************************************************************************************************************************** I am trying to avoid doing a Factory re-install as I would lose all of my 150 programs that I have added.
