Posted February 28, 201311 yr FPCH Admin I have Windows Virtual PC installed in Windows 7 Pro, and I am testing it with Windows XP Mode before I use it for Ubuntu Linux. In testing, I have gone through the normal routine with Windows XP Mode, installing updates but after the initial activation of Windows Update, after which I installed Microsoft Update, the update screen freezes for 9 to 10 minutes at the message "Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the Website..." before it goes to the next screen, "Welcome to Microsoft Update". I have also noticed that, even though the downloading process seems normal, the installation process is unusually longer than I expect, anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes for each of the biggest files. Is there a file within XP Mode that could be stalling the opening update screen, or could it be one of my programs in Win7 that could be responsible (though I doubt it)? Could it be that I may be missing an ActiveX program, or any program, for that matter? Or do I have one too many? Or should I simply scrub the XP Mode file that I have installed, and install a new one in its place, since I was in the early stages of Windows Update?
