Why does my screen turn off, after installing an intel driver update?

I am currently running 'Windows 7 64 Bit'. Normally, my updates through 'Windows Update' work flawlessly however, this time I encountered some odd problems. The problem occured when attempting to install 'Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics

Adapter WDDM1.2 - Intel® HD Graphics 4000', which was recently recommended to me as an update. When attempting to install the update, my computer refuses to output any video signal. I have already checked if it switched the outputs however, that was not

the problem as neither my graphics card nor the integrated graphics supplied anything. The computer itself is still on, but I have found no evidence that it is still in the OS. Is there a possibility that it is a bad driver, or am I just experiencing bad luck?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
