Internet Explorer 7 or 8 disapperance

I have windows xp but when I downloaded the newest version of internet explorer 8 from my 7.Now IE will not load at all. What have I done and please say there is an easy solution cause lord knows,I know nothing about this stuff,I apparently learn from

trail and error. Thanks for any input,I miss my IE!!!! Thanks again Sherry
