I am trying to get Windows updates, and when I search for them from the control panel, I get the 80070002 error.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. I have Trend Micro as my anti-virus software. I am able to connect to the intenet.

I've tried some possible solutions described in many of the message threads here including the following:

1) Running the troubleshooter from here

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter

This actually made 2 changes but did not fix the problem

2) Ran all of the steps from this article to clean up temporary files

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-80070002

Did not fix the problem.

3) The steps listed in this article

Error message when you try to use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates: "0x8024D007"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956701/en-us

I tried Method 1 (registering the Windows Update files) -

did not fix problem.

Then tried Method 2 (Downloading and installing the Windows Update agent).

I got an error when trying to install Microsoft Fix It.

4) The steps in this article:

Error message when you use the Windows Update Web site or Microsoft Update Web site to install updates: "0x80070002"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956698

Method 1: Run the System Update Readiness Tool (checksur.exe).

I downloaded and installed the x64-based version for Windows 7. This installed Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) -

no luck here.

Method 2: Rename the Windows Update Download Folder (there are no steps for Windows 7 fix here I used Windows Vista steps).

I followed all of these steps to rename the folder,

but still am unable to check for updates.

That's all I could find as far as potential solutions but I had no luck with any of these.

Anyone have anymore ideas???

Thanks!
