KB973768 installation fails

I just did a fresh install of XP Media Center 2005 on an older laptop after wiping the hard drive, and am now trying to bring it up to date. All drivers have been installed, etc. but windows update keeps failing to install KB973768. Running Fix It does

not fix it. Am out of ideas.
