Hello. I am having a strange problem with a specific users account in Windows Server 2008 R2. The account keeps locking out after the administrator (sort of me) unlocks it. I am able to unlock it, but it keeps on locking itself again, almost immediately (i.e., within 2 minutes after unlocking). I am wondering whether there is another service or program that is having this effect on the account. Also, this phenomenon does not happen with other user accounts.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I would start debugging this problem?

Many thanks.

Hello Bob,

The user account profile has not been deleted.

During the very short time window between unlocking the account and it re-locking, you can log in as the user normally from any workstation on the network.

It looks as if some services or background task running under the User's credentials but with the old password is causing the problem.

The question is - How do you find out if this is the case and what the resposible process is?.

Cheers

Hi,

If you are sure that there aren't any "open" or "hung" sessions somewhere, check these things:

- Scripts with hard coded password

- Scheduled tasks with OLD password

- 3rd part login (SQL,...)

Also download this tool:

Let me know.
