I have an issue accessing Windows Update. I searched here and online for an answer before I decided to ask.

The problem is that I can't access the Windows Update feature via the Windows Update option in the programs menu. Whenever I do I don't get any errors or anything like that. An IE page gets opened up (like normal), but the only thing I get is a windows page

that says "Use your Start menu to check for updates", which is what I just did. I can't get anywhere this way.

I even tried running FixIt and the problem still exists.

My OS info

Windows XP Home

Version 2002

SP 3

Edit:

I'd like to add that I am starting to think that the MS site is viewing my XP PC like it is a different version of Windows.

This is the address that I get from the Windows Update when I try to access it

http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us

Also I just tried to download Windows Live Essentials and it gave me a different version than I needed. I had to search around to find the installer for the XP version.
