Windows Update/Application Installs Event ID 11711

I am attempting to repair my neighbors laptop that was not able to get on the internet. What I found was that the OS had a 50 GB partition and everything was installed on the c: drive and it was totally out of space. I used Disk Manager to delete the

d: partition and extend c: to include the entire drive. I cleaned everything up, uninstalled various toolbars and malware found in Add/Remove Software (Control Panel). Now, when I try to do any Windows updates or update any applications, the installation

will fail claiming there is no disk space available. In the eventlog, I see MsiInstaller errors with an event id of 11711,

"An error occurred while writing installation information to disk. Check to make sure enough disk space is available, and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install."I also get this error when trying to install updates to iTunes also. I was able to install MalwareBytes with no problems and install a new version of Firefox. I have run defrag, chkdsk, malware scans, anti-virus scans, windows update fix it utility and anything else I could think of. I also tried to create a new user thinking that maybe the user profile I was using may have been corrupt. This user profile had the

same issue.I have searched the web for any information on this event id and found little to no information other than free up disk space.Any ideas?
