WINDOWS 7 Home Premium for x64 based system. LAPTOP ALWAYS SHUTS OFF ABRUPTLY WITH NO PROMPTING WHEN

I recently had to change the hard drive to my laptop. Everything seemed to be working fine. Started to download updates from Windows Updates, and the laptop abruptly shut off, without any prompts.

I restart the computer, everything seems to be working fine, but again, when I try to get updates, the laptop shuts off abruptly, with no prompts. I have run all kinds of diagnostics and restart methods, but again, the computer shuts off abruptly when I

try to install any kind of update. It also shuts off when I try to run the Windows Experience Index to grade my computer's performance.

Can anyone help with this please?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium for x64 based systems.

My laptop is a Dell Studio 1747.
