Purchased new Dell XPS 8500 September 08, 2012, came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Ultimate. Restored all my contacts, files, etc on new Dell. Attempted to install Windows 8 Pro Upgrade via cdrom from Microsoft around January 07, 2013. System went into a permanent

boot loop and no way to get out. Called Microsoft and Microsoft India attempted to get out of the problem but without a Windows 7 cdrom to boot from nor the Drivers. Microsoft India advised to cal Dell Canada to get Windows 7 Ultimate cdrom and the Dell Drivers.

Called Dell Canada, they ran diagnostics on my hardware, everything clean so they forwarded me to Dell India Software Support who said I needed a Software Maintenance Contract for $270.00 CDN so I could get their Windows 7 Ultimate cdrom and Dell Drivers!

Had no choice so I paid via Visa.

Two days later got cdroms. Microsoft India called and started the process of reloading Windows 7 and Windows 8, taking the updates which put the system into permanent boot loop for the third time. Also found out that wonderful Dell India ordered and delivered

the wrong Windows 8 (Home Version) instead of Ultimate. Dell India re-orders Windows 7 Ultimate whic arrived two days later.

Microsoft India did the Win 7 and Win 8 thing again a few times more, eachh time it took about 45 minutes to get to Win 8 and the updates again putting the system into boot loop. Microsoft India then decided to do a cold format (lost everything) as I intended

to do the backup after my first install of Windows 8. Reloaded Win 7, Win 8, took updates, same boot loop. After Microsoft India trying numerous more times to install Win 7 and Win 8 without succes, MS India said Windows 8 and the subsequent updates (KB2770917)

on a Dell XPS 8500 will not work and that it may be a Dell BIOS issue.

After both Dell India and Microsoft India gave up without anyone owning up to the problem. I decided to do another cold format, install Windows 7 Ultimate, take all the Win 7 updates and lock away Windows 8 untill either Dell or Microsoft calls back. It

has been over 8 days and no calls.

I spent 19 hours on the phone over six days, reloaded Win 7 and Win 8 under Microsoft India control in excess of 10 times each time taking about 45 minutes. Adding insult to injury, Dell India has $270.00 of my money to get MY Windows 7 ultimate cdrom and

MY Dell drivers which I paid for when I ordered the system. This is not the way to conduct business. I purchased two Dell PCs prior to my Dell XPS 8500 but this will definitely be my last.

The whole process leaves a bitter taste. I am no expert so some of the recommendations I read in the Forum are not in my intermediate level of expertise. I will need Microsoft India to initiate the fix by taking control of my PC like they did for the 19

hours, but only after they can guarantee me that the Microsoft Windows 8 KB2770917 problem on my Dell XPS 8500 has been successfully resolved.

My question is: Who (Dell or Microsoft or both) will resolve this Windows 8 update issue on a Dell XPS 8500 and WHEN will it be forth coming?

Regards
