I didn't think Ubuntu could do cut n paste. Copy, .. yes .. .. Linux does

that all the time.

Saucy

Sequence of events on my computer with Vista Ultimate.

1. I receive no indication of infection (using NOD32 AV)

2. Takes me to Apple web site to load QuickTime

3. Trying to play video crashes Internet Explorer and causes a restart of

same.

Can't view video.

Not only can it do it, you can paste whatever you've highlighted by

using the scroll button on your mouse with no need for cut or copy. May

I remind you that Linux is based on Unix which was around looooooooong

before Windows. May I also remind you that UAC is a copy of a feature in

Linux, as is Aero. Need I go on?

No, you shouldn't go on. Linux has been around long before Windows and look

how much market share it has. That should tell you that you are preaching

in the wind!

Thanks Mr. Urban for going to the effort. I think it is a co-incidence. The

IE7 froze, so I ran a thorough scan which only reported one file [VBE6.DLL]

as infected. I emailed ClamWin and followed their instructions for an online

scanner. Of a number of scanners only one - ClamAV (which uses the same

definition file as ClamWin) - reported anything. It's a false positive.

So my count is back to one. One in eleven years on the Windows plaform. Adam

Albright will be disappointed.

The results show only ClamWin reports anything:

I couldn't care less what the dumb fu*ks that post here do because it

is painfully obvious most refuse to learn. If you've picked little

Richie as a useful resource, you have my sympathy, you'll need it.

<snicker>

The REAL reason MOV files freeze is Apple makes an even worse video

player then the crap Microsoft does called Media Player. BTW, that's

common knowledge.

Do the stats you refer to really represent anything but numbers? They

don't take into account how the operating systems are marketed (or not),

nor do they take into account the fact that windows is ubiquitous in

that it is near the only choice in the mass market. I am not trying to

take anything away from what ms has accomplished, but the statistics

represent something less than the "people speaking". ymmv.

So what? All that confirms is you are a member of the kiddies camp

that only plays with your computer and never ventures into the darker

regions of the Internet, Usenet or other areas some dumb dick like you

never even heard of.

The point that zooms way over the heads of the clueless like you is it

doesn't matter how many virus or Trojans or Worms or whatever

malicious crap your encounter in your travels, all that matters is

knowing what to do IF you happen to pick up something unwanted.

Obviously you don't know what to do as you confirmed. <snicker>

Travelling the Internet? It's not a world - it's a network. And yes, I made

a very conscious decision not to have anything to do with the virus writing

(even though I realized I was capable of it). You're only hurt that I've

proven Windows is relatively secure if one is only somewhat careful.

It probably is a very small subset of the masses that "know" what to do

if they pick up something nasty/malicious. The best offense is a good

defense, and that should include both tools (av, etc), and maybe more

so, knowledge.

Don't blow a gasket! Remember, this is a guy who so bored with his Ubuntu he

comes to a Microsoft technical newsgroup to troll.

What else could the stats represent? Numbers. I don't care how the systems

are marketed, doesn't matter that MS is shoved down our throats, my point is

that Linux/Ubuntu is free and it still has a very small following to this

day. 20+ years later, people would have gotten the word that there is this

incredible OS called Linux/Unix/[insert Name Here] and they would flocked to

it in droves, but it wasn't [isn't] very good. That is why they have the

market share they have.

And the point I am making is there really hasn't been and still isn't

any marketing for linux comparable to that of the ms juggernaut. Without

marketing (and with very little chance of accessing the existing market

years ago), the numbers mean little in terms of the "people speaking" or

of them making an informed choice. It is a matter of opinion as to

whether linux is "any good" or not, but the "masses" have not had a vote

in determining that, any more than they have had a vote in determining

whether ms products are "good" in comparison to something else. If one

has no basis for comparison/choice, then anything presented to them that

provides usability and/or satisfies a need will become "good" by default.

Well, ONE intrusion on Ubangi is equivalent to 10 million intrusions on

Windows.

There's motivation, too, to consider. Malware writers don't fuss with Linux

boxes because they know the owners are as poor as church mice.
