I opened my laptop on the 16th and it said it had an automatic update. I was

working and didn't have time to reboot so I refused it multiple times. In the

middle of my work I accidently clicked "restart now" But the computer

wouldn't come back up. I couldn't even reboot in safe mode, I tried multiple

times. It would come up to a prompt screen, ask which mode I wanted to boot

up in, and then I would select and it would run over all of the computer's

information then the XP screen would come up and all the lights would go out,

everything went out, and it took me back to the prompt screen. It was

maddening. Finally a new screen came up. Something, RECOVERY, something... it

went through this whole process. When it came up, it reinstalled windows....

now I have lost all my programs. The computer thinks it's only been alive

since August 16th. I inherited this laptop and don't have the original

program discs... so... all my files are on here... but I can't open any of

them... ie- Photoshop photos, even Word Docs. IS there any way that I can get

my computer back to the way it was? I tried system restore, but it only goes

back to the day all this happened.
