I wish to set new adminstrators password in XP

I have been given a Acer Veriton Desktop Tower to practice repair and update work on a Tower. I wish to upgrade memory RAM, add upgraded and larger memory Hard Drive and change Windows from XP to Windows 7. Also I need to add new network connection changing

from LAN to WAN via wireless.

I have a users account password and have started my planned changes by trying to add a network connection for Email and Web connections. The system is telling me I need an administration password to start this change. What are my options ? Would be prepared

to wipe hard drive clean and start by adding windows 7. Is this a realistic option for I understand this would mean setting a new admin password for windows 7?
