Did a clean install on my computer. Windows update keeps giving the error code 0x8024400A. Tried to re-install my system again ...still get same error code along with this message......" The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you

are trying to view. "

Thought perhaps...maybe Micosoft's website might be having some issues.

I've done several clean installs over the years with this computer...never a problem till today.

Done a lot of searching for answers but no luck. The Fix-IT program that microsoft offers won't work ...says I need service pack 3. I have service pack 2 and am unable to update to service pack 3 or anything else for that matter. No third party anti spyware

or antivirus is running my computer...time and date are correct. Running XP Home Edition on my laptop. Anyone out there have any idea what's going on. Thanks for any help...DG

After a clean install on my computer...I found that Windows Update would not function correctly. I kept getting an0X8024400A error code ...along with this message......

I found the solution here....

Microsoft hasa utliliy agent that fixes the Wups2.dll file. Download and Run the Windows Update Agent that is correct for your system.

Copied and Pasted from the link above....

This issue occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is not installed correctly.

For scenario 1, the registry entries that correspond to the Wups2.dll file are missing after the repair install of Windows XP. The release version of Windows XP does not contain the Windows Update software.

For scenario 2, the registry entries that correspond to Windows Update are changed back to the Windows XP SP2 version if you did not restart the computer before you install Windows XP SP3. The registry entries for the Wups2.dll file are changed to pointing

to the Wups.dll file that is included in the release version of Windows XP SP2.
