I bought it for two reasons:

1. Curiosity.

2. For games that use DX10.

I will never use it as a workstation and I am not impressed or wowed by

it. Seems like an XP SE with a little eye candy thrown in, although the

search feature is almost as good as Beagle.

As long as AV software cannot detect *all* viruses, they are *all*

useless. Even if the best AV software were 99% efficient, that last

percent still contains undetected malware.

It suffices that *one* single virus slips through to cause havoc.

Wrong! These people believe that AV software is the answer to their

malware problems, and they think that anything is permitted, because

their AV software is taking care of the bad things.

Even with AV software running on a PC, one still has to be very careful.

Should I mention phishing here?

I believe that the computer users should be *educated* on malware.

Don't just let them use AV illusionware and hope for the best.

That is not quite the same, because you might be protected in your car,

and still have an accident, but be injured just a little bit.

But if only *one* virus gets through the AV software on a PC, that PC is

not just a little bit infected, it could be totally compromised.

That is the difference.

Rule #1 - Don't listen to Alias

Rule #2 - Don't get anywhere near Ubuntu/Linux/Unix

Rule #3 - Don't listen to Alias

Rule #4 - Microsoft isn't perfect but it's workable (If not Vista, than XP)

Rule #5 - Don't listen to Alias

If any of the above rules don't apply, use the following rule:

Don't listen to Alias

charter can get their account suspended, another Usenet rule you didn't

Perhaps you are not familiar with the entire Kaspersky line? They also have

small business and corporate versions as well that can be deployed over a

server. The version I referred to is admittedly their "Home" version. But

all of the Kaspersky line is top notch.

So what do you call yourself since you are by far the biggest liar

here.

it depends on what YOU like.

I use AVG free from http://free.grisoft.com

Others swear by Avast free at http://www.avast.com

Others say Clamwin from http://www.clamwin.org

Then there are the ones that say Kapersky or NOD32 are better.

As long as you avoid Symantec or McAfee, you 'may' be OK.

More lies and deception. DX10 games are a long ways off pal. Plus all

new games that will play on DX10 (haven't seen any as of yet)will also

play on DX9. Game developers aren't about to cut their own throats.

Oh, so you're saying DX10 will never be used? Are you saying that games

won't require Vista? Maybe I wasted my money then because I don't see

any advantage to Vista over XP or Ubuntu for anything else.

All AV software in general is crap, because they cannot guarantee a 100%

protection from malware, and worst of all, they give the PC user a false

sense of security. Remember, it suffices for only *one* computer virus

to cause havoc.

Therefore, the best, and by far most efficient protection from malware

is to *avoid* installing it on the PC.

Something to think about:

Except that the masses of ignorant users are unable to learn enough to

keep that from happening - and then there are the exploits in

applications that get taken advantage of by new malware before the

exploit is public....

AV, while not perfect, is a must for any computer not in a secured,

locked down, environment.
